Newborn Essentials: Hadagi

HADAGI, a traditional kimono style underwear has been appreciated among Japanese mothers and babies for a long time because of its comfort and function.
Unlike ordinary onesies, kimono style is very easy to put on and take off. You don't need to put the baby's head go through the neck.

At Psny, we've been carrying the high quality hadagi from MIKI HOUSE for the past 4 years. Soft fabrics are made of Supima® Cotton (offers the desirable characteristics of cotton; comfort, absorbency, easy care, freedom from static cling, strength). All seams and tags are formed on the outside of the wear, so they do not irritate baby's skin. Because clothing tags and rough seams can be really uncomfortable for newborn's delicate skin.

Another unique feature of hadagi is the silhouette. A bottom part of long hadagi is designed to fit the shape of newborn's leg ("M" shape) so that a baby can move their legs freely.

Babywearing Workshop

The Prenatal Yoga Center is the first yoga center in New York City to focus on moms and moms-to-be. Yesterday, we participated in babywearing workshop and demonstrated how to use P-sling at their UWS space. It was a cozy and relaxed atmosphere so that all attendees could try P-sling to see how it works. A babywearing expert, Jane Silane walked them through different types of baby carriers (front carrier, hip holder, sling, mei tai, Wrap etc...) and shared her own experience with each carriers. It was insightful. We hope all attendees went home being excited about their babywearing experience.

Perfect fabric for summer

Finally, summer has arrived here in NY after rainy month of June! We are often asked by customers which P-sling collection is good for summer. Of course we have linen fabric which is great for breathability. But SIJIRA cotton is the best among our cotton collections.

Origin of SIJIRA is summer kimono in Japan. If you have never experienced summertime in Japan, we have to tell you it is hot and humid!! So the fabric has to breath better to fit the season. The fabric has unevenness on surface called Shibo. It looks like seersucker fabric. This surface makes a layer of air which results in giving lightness and coolness.

The fabric is created in Awa city known for indigo dying as "Japanese Blue". Usual SIJIRA fabric on the market does not have enough strength to safely carry babies because it is meant to be worn mostly as kimono. That's why we have been collaborating with Nagao-Orifu (founded in 1897) to produce our original SIJIRA fabric specifically for P-sling. Once you try it, you will love how the fabric dries quickly and gets softer.

Wonderful time with expectant moms

Last month, we participated in Expectant Moms Dinner hosted by Big City Moms, the original social program for moms in NYC. At the event, we were fortunate to have an opportunity to introduce P-sling in front of 60 expectant moms. And one lucky winner brought an Organic Cotton P-sling home with her!

Big City Moms is founded by two sisters, Risa Goldberg and Leslie Venokur to create and host events and classes for moms, expectant moms and whole families. If you have not heard about this program yet, you should check out their website (www.bigcitymoms.com) for more info. You will be amazed by the variety of events/classes they offer.
